Hello everyone...I haven't written in a while so there is a lot I need to talk about. Let's start with the IADT Fashion Show that was held @ the Crest Theater on March 28
th. It was absolutely AMAZING! If you didn't make it, you missed out L but there will be plenty more to come. Everyone was great from the celebs to the student designers. Not only was it a great event that brought fashion to Sacramento but, it was also an event that gave back to the non-profit organization CARES. This fashion show gave the students the opportunity to experience all aspects of the fashion industry, from sketch, to runway.
Unfortunately I didn't really get to see the show because I was backstage working with all of my students and the models, hair and make-up, the media, and anyone else who needed me. I'm the Fashion Department Chair for the school and I played a big part in making it happen. J It was all worth it.
I just wanted to say thank you to our amazing team, students and staff included, and to our sponsors for making the show possible. Stay tuned for the next show date...

There is some confusion about being trendy versus being fashion forward. Being trendy is not hard at all. Just follow the current trends and you will be considered trendy. For example, leggings are really "in" right now and have been in fashion for a while. You can find them anywhere from Neiman Marcus to Wal-Mart. They are ultra trendy.

Now being fashion forward takes a lot more effort. First let's start off with what most of us already do at least a couple of times a week, read magazines. Fashion and Gossip magazines are the best. Fashion magazines have designer ads for the next season, while gossip magazines have pictures of celebrities. Both will give you some insight to what's going to be the next hot thing. A good example are stirrup pant or stirrup legging. You don't see them in many stores but there are a few retailers such as American Apparel and Urban Outfitters that carry them, and celebrities Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan have been seen wearing them. So step into a pair of stirrups and dare to be fashion forward.

My First Blog....YAY!
Well...the time in finally here for me to start a blog. I have a lot to get out so I'm very excited about contributing to a commutiy website and hearing other people's opinions and reading other member's blogs. I guess I will start off with a mini introduction: my name is Denise, I was born in Fresno, moved to Sacramento when I was 9, received my AA in Fashion Design and minored in Sociology (random combination but I LOVE sociology). I moved to Los Angeles, received my BA in Fashion Design and a BA in Marketing. I modeled full-time while I was in college and soon after graduation I became an Assistant Buyer for a depatment store and later became a Buyer and Designer for a major clothing company. I recently moved back to Sacramento to be closer to family and plan my upcoming wedding :) and I love being back. Fashion is my passion, I live it...breathe it...and love it! I believe that Sacramento has the potential to be a fashion forward city and I will explain why in my upcoming blogs. Stay tuned.....
